Why are running socks important?
Read Time: 4 Minutes.
We marvel at the idea of £300 running shoes but when it comes to running socks, why do many head to the closest outlet for the cheapest multipack they can find? Obviously, we are a little biased, but we come with great reasoning...
1. Blister Prevention
Blisters are not just uncomfortable, but can be the difference between completing a training block successfully or even executing your race plan. Blisters can be caused by friction, heat and moisture, which is why we use a breathable mesh upper and seamless toe box to keep your feet cooler & to aid against friction. The ribbing around the arch of the foot is also specifically placed with just the right tension to hold your sock in place. If your sock moves less inside your shoe when you run, you reduce friction and in turn reduce your chance of blisters.
2. Cushioning & Support
Running long distances means you need to keep your feet supported, did you know that you can exert up to 3 - 4 times your bodyweight on the foot when running?! The right running socks can absorb the impact running has on your feet, preventing soreness and improve your running experience. If you are looking for a highly supportive sock, our Ultra range offers a cushioned footbed for maximum comfort from heel to toe!
3. Durability
Whilst casual socks may seem the cheaper option, they do not stand up well to the wear and tear that regular running causes to socks. Running socks are designed to withstand frequent use & long distances, which in the long run actually makes them the most cost effective choice! Which is why the heels and toes of Monkey Sox are plated with an extra yarn to improve durability in the key pressure areas.
4. Compression
Some running socks offer a level of compression that can aid blood flow, improve recovery and reduce fatigue. For instance, our Victory Compression socks feature engineered level 1 compression to aid circulation and stimulate blood flow to improve recovery and performance. So not only can running socks be a preventative measure but also improve performance!
5. Moisture Control
As we know, feet sweat... When moisture is trapped, it can lead to blisters and bad odours. Regular cotton socks do not wick sweat well, making your feet uncomfortable when running. Our mesh upper and technical yarns help your feet to stay cooler so you can enjoy your longer runs without a worry. P.S. did you know we use Coolmax Technology in our Elite Grid trainer liners, which dries 5 times faster than cotton!
6. Style & Personality
We are all about a bit of flair in your running gear and our socks are no exception. Whether you prefer trainer liners or knee-high compression socks, we have a style to match every runners personality and provide a mental boost before a big race - look good, feel good, run fast!
